Governance and Committee Structure of RISC

Institute Council

The Institute Council is the highest decision-making body. It includes representatives from all eleven sections as well as from the mid-level academic staff.

Executive Board

The Executive Board, appointed by the Institute Council, is responsible for the scientific and administrative leadership of the institute. It consists of the scientific director and the administrative managing director. The research coordinator and the science manager support the executive board in the operational management.

Research Area Coordination

The responsibilities of the research area coordinators include implementing the joint work program and consolidating research outcomes.

Strategy Commission

The Strategy Commission is composed of the coordinators of the research areas, a representative of the research data center, the research coordinator, and a representative of knowledge transfer (as a permanent guest). The commission synthesizes findings from the four research areas, formulates strategic recommendations for the institute as a whole, and supports international networking.

Committees

Internal subject-matter consultation is conducted within the committees for data and science communication, which are appointed by the Institute Council.

Section spokespersons and coordinators

The regionally based sections contribute to the diversity of RISC through their distinct research and transfer profiles. Each section is led by a section spokesperson and supported by a section coordinator.

The decentralized Coordinating Office consists of several cross-sectional units and services. These include, among others, the Research Data Center, the Department of Science Communication, career development, and the international fellowship program.
