JEN_T_02 Journal of Research of the Far Right

Objectives / Research Questions

The planned Journal of Research of the Far Right aims to fill a disciplinary gap within academic research addressing phenomena of far-right extremism and right-wing populism. In terms of content, the journal will promote (hitherto lacking) interdisciplinary exchange about theories, methods, and research findings while also connecting to international debates and contributions in this field of research. Furthermore, the journal aims to institutionalize dialogue between research on racism, anti-Semitism, and social cohesion as well as advance this field through research contributions. In doing so, the journal will provide a framework for consolidating academic discourses and contexts for discussion about far-right extremism. Also open to contributions from the area of prevention and intervention analysis (e.g. the evaluation of pedagogical instruments), by promoting bundled knowledge transfer from research to civil society and enabling the dissemination of this knowledge, the Journal of Research of the Far Right will make an important contribution to civil society debates about far-right extremism and right-wing populism.

Thematic relation to social cohesion

Working with a normative understanding of social cohesion, the journal promotes discussions about the emergence and intensification of right-right extremism and right-wing populism as a general symptom or cause of the erosion of social cohesion. Academically rigorous analyses and debates regarding extreme-right phenomena will be vital to the investigation of social cohesion.

Based on a descriptive understanding of social cohesion, the journal will offer a platform for debating the historical and contemporary dimensions surrounding the significance of social cohesion for the populist and the extreme right and, subsequently, their relationship vis-à-vis the interpretation of social cohesion developed at RISC.
